Recreational Gymnastics

General Information

These are the children who will attend a session at the gymnastics club once a week to enjoy the basics of gymnastics. At Lincoln we have recreational sessions for different children in accordance to age and also ability. These classes have different names, and will be attended at different times of the week but all which allow children to access the appropriate level of gymnastics appropriate to them.

               Pathway

Mixed Classes
For the new starters to Lincoln Gym Club and gymnastics as a sport. Both boys and girls join together in a class of 45 minutes which incorporates learning the fun and exploratory areas of gymnastics using the large apparatus. These classes help develop an understanding of gymnastics skills of rolls, cartwheels, handstands and also begin the first steps on the BAGA Proficiency Badge scheme. While also building children's self confidence in areas of jumping, balancing, climbing, height together with social skills and discipline needed for the sport.

Preliminary Classes
The girls and boys branch off at this point to pursue the specific discipline of men's or women's gymnastics for 1 hour a week. The children will move into these classes under the assessment of their ability to pursue this level having attained certain abilities to cope with the next stage on Lincoln Gym Clubs Pathway. At this point they will further develop their gymnastics skills and venture further into the BAGA badge scheme. They also have the opportunity to take part in our annual club competition where they will learn a floor exercise and also a vault and perform it in a competition format, normally towards the end of the year. The children begin to learn new skills and further develop those learnt on apparatus appropriate to their specific discipline.

Intermediate Classes
Again the children will move into these classes under the assessment of their ability. They remain separate classes for boys and girls specific to their discipline for 1hr 30 minutes a week. They will focus on the higher level of recreational gymnastics in the teaching of skills and use of the apparatus. BAGA Badges are worked upon and again the children are able to take part in our annual club competition in order to experience the competitive area of our sport.
